If you have a need for speed, one way to scratch your itch is to take a ride on a really fast - and they don't get any faster than this one. Formula Rossa, capable of accelerating from 0 to 150mph (240 km/h) in 4.9 seconds is located at the Ferrari World in , United Arab Emirates.

Manufactured by Intamin, has been welcoming thrill seekers since it opened on November 4, 2010, when it became the fastest roller coaster in the world, earning itself a place in the Guinness world record and surpassed Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, which had held the record since 2005. This mega rollercoaster is not for the faint hearted, it can travel 52 meters upward in just 4.9 seconds at a spectacular 51-degree incline.

To reach the hair-raising speeds, the coaster features a hydraulic launch system to create a release velocity. All dare devil riders can expect their heart to skip a beat, with G-force reaching 1.7 during acceleration and up to 4.8 throughout the ride.

Themed to Formula One racing, the heart stopping ride lasts one minute, 32 seconds, it features four trains with four cars each, allowing 16 riders to board each train at a time.

Riders are propelled from an air-conditioned interior, which combats the hot climate of Abu Dhabi, to the desert and navigate a 1.29-mile track layout.

According to the park's director of maintenance, Wayne Meadows, the ride's "dramatic performance" requires passengers to wear goggles, since Abu Dhabi is "subject to heavy sand and dust storms".

The roller coaster closed unexpectedly in January 2024 for a significant refurbishment of its hydraulic launch system. In December, afetr an 11-month closure, the ride reopened to the public.

Developed by Miral work commenced on Ferrari World on November 3 2007 and is built under a huge triangle red roof on the £30bn land belonging to Yas Island development.

Spanning 86,000 square metres, the world's largest indoor theme park features six roller-coasters and a total of 40 rides. Its most recent roller coaster to open is Mission Ferrari, which opened to the public in January 2023. There is something for everyone here with the park being divided into four unique zones, Italian Zone, Family Zone, Adventure Zone and F1 Zone.

The park hosts an array of themed seasonal events throughout the year, including 'The Festival of Lights' which is held in October.
