star has recently spilled the beans about his exciting future plans for the hit BBC spin-off, . The actor, who has won hearts as the endearing detective Humphrey Goodman since 2014, revealed he's not even close to hanging up his detective hat. Marshall is all in for continuing his journey with Goodman in the spin-off, promising fans more intriguing adventures and charismatic sleuthing.

In a revealing chat with during a set visit for the third series of Beyond Paradise, Marshall opened up about his deep connection with his character. "I'm still finding stuff with Humphrey," he revealed. "And I think as long as that goes on and as long as Humphrey evolves [that's good] because when I started playing Humphrey it was 11 years ago so the character has to grow with me as I get older."

The actor, now in his fifties, emphasised the necessity of the character's evolution to mirror his own life changes. "As I get more mature -I'm not getting mature- he has to grow with me as I get older. He has to evolve because now I'm in my fifties so I can't play the same character that Humphrey was when he was 40, which is when I started."

Reflecting on the draw of the BBC spinoff, Marshall expressed that Beyond Paradise tackles more personal themes compared to its predecessor.

"But with Beyond Paradise we deal with more of a personal journey than necessarily would do in Death in Paradise, and because that personal journey involves him and Martha and their journey as a childless couple, their path to blended parenthood as they try and work their way through that, that to me works fine."

Marshall's enthusiasm is matched by his co-star Zahra Ahmadi, who portrays DS Esther Williams. Ahmadi is equally optimistic about the spin-off's potential to match the original series' longevity. "I think it absolutely has the capacity to do that. I mean, there's so much we haven't even scratched the surface on yet with characters, and then with various crimes and cases."

Ahmadi didn't hold back on her aspirations for the show's future. "I would absolutely love to do 14 series of it, there's just nothing like it. I get to be at home which is a real joy, and I get to work with the most amazing cast and crew I've ever worked with.

"I absolutely love working with Kris, Dylan [Lewellyn], and Felicity [Montagu], with Barbara [Flynn], with Sally [Bretton], Jaime [Bamber]. We have a lovely time, we've got the best producer in Lindsay Hughes. It's just so joyous, so yes we would like to [keep going for 14 series]."
