The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Meerut suffered a major setback when the party's state general secretary Shahjeb Rizvi suddenly resigned. Shahjeb Rizvi clearly stated that the big vote bank of Muslims played an important role in the 10 seats in which RLD won in West UP. Rizvi says that the party is ignoring the strength of Muslims and their contribution.

While resigning, he also expressed displeasure over the political equation in West UP, which had been able to participate in power, is constantly ignoring the importance of the same community. Rizvi's decision has stirred up RLD and internal dissatisfaction in the party has started coming out openly.
