A PR expert has claimed that may have "missed the mark completely" following the release of The Duchess of Sussex launched her fifth project with the streaming giant in March, generating from critics and mixed reaction from fans.

Despite this, With Love, Meghan has been renewed for a second season - - and was included in Netflix's global top 10 list. Now a PR expert has commented on her latest Netflix offering and the backlash it sparked and pointed to a detail which might have contributed to it. Edward Coram James, CEO and co-founder of marketing agency , said: "The brand image she's trying to curate may be quite different from the brand image we've come to know.

"If she's trying to stick to the public's current, mainly negative perception of her, the discussions surrounding this focus on herself are aligned with the image she's built to date.

"But if she's aiming more for a genuine, hospitable, other-orientated, laid-back royal-next-door, she's missed the mark completely."

Mr Coram James added that Meghan's "polarised response" has contributed to her business efforts.

He explained: "Many who like to watch the controversy or tension typically seen in reality TV are drawn to these similarly trivial skirmishes and rumours that are cropping up around her.

"So, the uncertainty almost works as a catalyst for increased public interest - even if it's negative attention, it's still attention."

But he warned the duchess that the fans' mixed reception of her show could pose a risk for the renewal of the Sussexes's Netflix deal, which is nearing its end.

He said: "Yes, the [£80]million deal she's secured with them is an achievement, she'll have to be careful not to jeopardise that with continued negative reviews that then lead to reduced viewership."
