David Coulthard broke his collarbone in a motorbike accident, according to Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden. The pair have been friends for years, with Coulthard taking on the role as best man when Holden married Chris Hughes in 2008.
Coulthard is one of the most recognisable British F1 drivers in the history of the sport and entered 247 Grands Prix between 1994 and 2008. He raced for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull and finished runner-up to Michael Schumacher in the F1 title race in 2001. He ended his career with 13 race victories and now works as an F1 pundit.
Coulthard was mentioned during a conversation on on Thursday as he was celebrating his 54th birthday.
Holden, 54, and her co-presenter Jamie Theakston, 54, were playing a game where the former Live & Kicking host had to guess the age of celebrities who were observing their special day.
And as the attention turned to the former F1 star, Holden exclaimed: "Uncle David, we call him in our house. David Coulthard, DC, godfather to our girls."
She then joked: "God knows why we did that, he's naughty. He is in charge of my children's spiritual upbringing and they're both girls. Formula One driver, pundit, man...."
Theakston waded in: "He's lived life in the fast lane." And Holden revealed: "He still is, he's just broken his collarbone - but on a motorbike. Can you believe that."
Theakston seemed to be stunned into silence as he merely replied: "Oh, did he." He then correctly guessed Coulthard's age.
Coulthard and have regularly appeared alongside Holden on her social media accounts over the years.
And on one occasion during the 2021 world championship, Holden shared a picture of her and the former driver on Instagram as they watched a Grand Prix together.
She captioned the photo by writing: "Getting live commentary in my kitchen over this #Grandprix nightmare for @redbullracing, looks like @pirelli isn't having a 'Goodyear' (that's a joke for anyone that understands about tyres)."
Coulthard has previously spoken out about his friendship with Holden and her husband. During an interview with Cruise and Travel, he explained: "Chris and I have been friends for a long time, we're very close.
"He's married to Amanda Holden and we all get on well - they're a great couple to travel with. Chris is a great laugh and we're always having a giggle together."
