Lucknow: There has been a significant twist about the honorarium of Shikshamitras in Uttar Pradesh. The Allahabad High Court has ordered the state government to consider increasing the honorarium of Shikshamitras. This order has come at a time when Shikshamitras have staged a protest against the government on their demands and have also knocked the door of the court. The number of Shikshamitras is in millions in primary and upper primary schools of the state, but their honorarium has not increased for the last eight years, and they are working on Rs 10,000 a month.
Long wait for increase in honorarium
The honorarium of Shikshamitras was increased from Rs 3500 to Rs 10,000 in August 2017, but since then it has not been re -increased. Shikshamitras have demanded the government from time to time regarding their problems, but there was no positive response from the government. 10,000 rupees a month has become a very small amount for them, especially when given the increasing inflation and needs of the country. In addition, Shikshamitras do not get any honorarium during the summer holidays, which makes their lives even more difficult.
High court order and government options
The High Court has ordered the government to consider the increase in honorarium of Shikshamitras on this issue. However, the government does not have many options besides appealing against this order or seeking time. According to sources, the UP government is currently not taking any decisive steps on this issue. The Basic Education and Finance Department had already sent a proposal to the Chief Minister's Office to increase the honorarium, but there was no positive indication from there. Now it will be seen what steps the government takes on this order.
What is the situation of Shikshamitras in the state
About 1.48 lakh Shikshamitra are employed in the council schools of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from teaching children, these teachers also play an important role in the arrangements of schools. Education Minister Sandeep Singh has also admitted that due to the number of Shikshamitras and their hard work, the teacher-student ratio has improved in the schools of the state. The issue of this honorarium growth is not only to the lives of Shiksha Mitras, but also to the education system of the entire state.
