The White House posted a Ghibli-style AI meme of convicted drug dealer Virginia Basora-Gonzalez in an effort to capitalize on the trend. Responding to another White House post on X, the message instantly generated internet discussion.

Virginia Basora-Gonzalez: Who Is She?

The DEA first detained Basora-Gonzalez in Pennsylvania for unlawfully carrying more than 40 grams of fentanyl. After entering a guilty plea, she received a sentence of almost a year in jail and supervised release. But in 2020, she was deported to the Dominican Republic before completing her whole term. She nonetheless entered the country illegally again and was later detained outside a Philadelphia restaurant where she was purportedly employed as a chef. As part of their efforts to improve public safety, ICE verified her arrest.
