The biggest film of Malayalam cinema and a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran has finally released in theatres.

The mass action entertainer generated the biggest advance booking for Malayalam films and even challenged films on all-India level. It is now expected to hit over Rs 70 crore on day one at the worldwide box office and the number may even go higher depending on how much love it receives from the audience.

The film is so far getting majorly positive reviews from the audiences with many calling it a “big winner” and a “blockbuster” watch.

Sharing their review of L2: Empuraan, one social media user wrote, “A terrific multilayered mass entertainer from Prithviraj and #Mohanlal. Embedded in the DNA of lucifer, #L2E follows the same pattern of its predecessor, it is intentionally slow at times and explosive at other times. An engaging first half and a brilliantly crafted second half, with a properly pitched theatre moments in between. BIG WINNER High chances for Industry Hit”.

Another user commented, “#Empuraan One Word Review : Toofan A film that will set a benchmark for Mollywood for years to come! #L has once again proven he's the GOAT. Hats off to #Prithviraj the mastermind behind this epic masterpiece. Indian cinema will celebrate this masterclass from Mwood #L2E”.

A third user reacted, “#EMPURAAN SECOND HALF I Couldn't Control Myself Guy's.. My Vein's Exploded from the Initial Moments LITREALLY KATHIKKALL #MOHANLAL #PRITHVRAJSUKUMARAN Elevation s with PHIR ZINDA SONG”.

On the other hand, there were some folks who were not impressed with the sequel as one of them wrote, “#Empuraan #L2E: Overhyped and underwhelming movie that we never expected from Prithvi. Some performances and dialogues are like how a robot would do. The storyline follows a predictable path. The background music was underwhelming, and there were only a few goosebumps moments.”

Another user reacted, “#Empuraan — Missed Opportunity With the expectations and humongous presales #L2E had makers failing to satisfy was a big letdown. Can't digest Murali Gopi changed the whole classy Lucifer into a template revenge drama. Music department was also underwhelming when compared to the predecessor. Despite a solid Lalettan & 2 Good episodes, this was a Mixed Bag. Average”.

It is now playing in theatres all over in multiple Indian languages.
