Religion critics have said that Mamooti is a Muslim and if this puja is performed at their behest, then they should apologize to their community. There are many posts on social media in which users are claiming that Mamootha is Muslims and Hindu prayers violate Islamic beliefs.

Mohanlal has given clarification on this whole matter after seeing the controversy growing. He has said that Mamooty did not ask him to do so, but he has done this puja voluntarily. The Malayalam actor reacted to the controversy at an event in Chennai and said that Mammooty is like his brother. His health was not good, so I got this prayer. It was completely personal.
