Sanjay Kumar Mishra, former head of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been appointed to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM). Mishra, known to be close to PM Modi, was given multiple extensions at helm of affairs at ED, a law enforcement agency for economic and financial offences.

This position holds the rank of a Secretary. The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister or EAC-PM is an independent body that is responsible for providing the prime minister with important updates and advice on crucial economic matters.

The polices and suggestions adopted by the council therefore hold a lot of significance.

This appointment comes after the death of the body's former chairman Bibek Debroy, who passed away on 1 November 2024, at the age of 69.
