Commentary is an important part of the game of cricket, or any sport for that matter. The commentator’s job is to make sure that the viewer has an idea of what is going on and gets a feel of the match. In other words, to make the viewer feel part of the action without actually being present. Over the years some legendary commentators have kept fans engaged and made iconic moments memorable with their style of speaking.
But when it comes to Hindi commentary, over the years the standard has begun to fall. It’s now less about the game but more about entertainment. While they may hide behind audience demand, the truth is that the audience has not demanded it at all.

Now one fan has openly ranted on the internet and said that when he was growing up, one could learn about the basics from listening to Hindi commentary. Nowadays he felt there was nothing worth listening to. He does make a good point as there has been a dip in quality over the years when it comes to Hindi commentary.

Of course, the rant did not go unnoticed on social media. The internet took notice and was buzzing with reactions. For the most part, people supported the rant and agreed that Hindi commentary was now the first.

They don't even use Hindi words. Most of them use Urdu words. Now observe words like 'istekbaal'.

Case in point is the IPL Hindi commentary where sometimes they get way ahead of themselves. IPL 2025 has just started and is no exception to this.
So what’s the solution? Well, it’s the commentators who have to take proper steps so that Hindi commentary can regain its lost glory. It is not impossible but change will not happen in a day. It is a gradual process and takes time. But then, as they say, one drop is what it takes to start an ocean.
