Baller League manager Angry Ginge has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to bring ex-Premier League striker Jermain Defoe in as a wildcard for matchday 1.

Asked about the rumours pre-matchday that Defoe had been rejected by Yanited, Angry Ginge said during his co-commentary: "I did [reject him], yeah. I said no.
"I come back to the manager's point of view. I found out that we were meant to have Jermain Defoe.
"I love Jermain, I think he's class, I watched him growing up, but at the end of the day, I've chosen a team of ballers and I want to see what they're about.
"I've said I'm not interested in that, let's see what the team can do. "At the end of the day, it's a chance for the boys that we've selected, so to have a pro come in with an established career is naughty."
He added: "To be honest, I'm actually quite glad I did because if we've scored seven without him, you're looking at double figures if we would have had him."
Asked if there's a chance Defoe could appear for his team, the Twitch streamer said: "That's up to Jermain.
"I've got no problem with him coming back but I want him to understand that I really like him, but I've put the boys first."
