Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had rolled out an initiative called the "Abhay Yojana" (amnesty scheme) to provide relief to water consumers with pending dues. This scheme offers a unique opportunity for consumers to clear their outstanding water bills by making a one-time payment, with all additional charges waived.

As the financial year 2024-25 comes to a close on March 31, 2025, BMC is offering citizens a week to settle their dues. To make the process as convenient as possible, the civic body will keep its Citizen Facilitation Centers open extended hours—from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM on March 29 and 30, and on March 31, which is a public holiday in observance of Eid.

According to BMC officials, it is mandatory for citizens to pay their water bills within one month of the bill date, with any delay resulting in additional charges. However, the "Abhay Yojana" offers an exceptional chance to avoid these penalties.

The BMC has requested all water consumers, including government and semi-government offices, to take advantage of this scheme by clearing their outstanding bills by March 31, 2025, ensuring they benefit from the amnesty and avoid any extra costs.
