expert Tim Weeks may be a renowned antiques expert, but even he has made huge mistakes on the lunchtime show. And it's fair to say the TV presenter didn't bring his A-game during Friday's instalment (March 21) of the long-running show.
For the afternoon special, experts Tim and Phillip Serrell teamed up with two mother-and-daughter teams dressed in red and blue. The teams of three scoured antiques and collectibles at the Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet for the most profitable items to take to auction. It's fair to say the blue team got off to a difficult start, failing to make a profit with their chosen items.
Therefore, Tim was tasked with finding a bonus buy with the blue team's remaining pocket money. But the duo was less than impressed with the expert's find when he presented it to them moments before it went up for auction.
Upon first look, the doting mum recoiled in disgust as Tim squealed at their reaction. He asked: "'Urgh'... you said 'Urgh'" while her daughter attempted to ease her mum's harsh reaction.
She mumbled: "It's alright... it's alright, it's nothing special. What is it?" Tim explained: "It's a milking stool, a really old one as well. This is cool, we're in the West Country." Host Charlie Ross chuckled: "I've never seen anybody less excited about a Bargain Hunt lot in all my life!"
Upon further reflection, her mother admitted: "I like the green on it, what is it worth?" to which Tim replied: "In the West Country, this can make us £40 to £45. I paid £27 for this, but it's a proper antique."
It didn't take long before fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to poke fun at the mortifying exchange online. One user chuckled: "Tim Weeks gets crushed quite often when presenting his 'bonus' buys." as another echoed: "Just watched that, presenter #CharlieRoss found it hilarious [laughing emoji]."
A third chimed in with: "It was funny [laughing emoji]. I like it though @TimWeeks720" as a fourth agreed: "So funny [cry-laughing emoji]." It comes after Tim suffered the humiliation of having an item in auction on the BBC show which couldn't even raise 50p - despite spending £60 on it.
The broadcaster recalled the embarrassing moment on a special show to mark the programme's 25th anniversary. He and his team were eyeing up an ice cream cart which was going for £80. Having managed to secure it for £60, they brought it to auction but Tim realised they may not turn a profit as soon as he walked through the door.
He admitted: "I remember Catherin Southon telling me off as I walked in the sale room." Despite even asking for 50p for the item, it received no bids leading one of the team to exclaim: "I'm so ashamed" as Tim laughed: "No bids and unsold on Bargain Hunt. I made history."
Bargain Hunt airs on Mondays and Fridays from 12.15pm on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
