Thomas Tuchel plans to keep his England stars guessing on his team selections. England boss Tuchel only told the squad the starting XI on the morning of Friday’s game with Albania and plans to do the same in future.

Former boss would tell the players the day before and many club managers do similar. Southgate used to try and keep his tactics under wraps to fool the opposition but Tuchel says that most of his players will have a good idea anyway.

Tuchel even recounted how he used to do things at that the players would know from the final training session whether they were in or not. Tuchel told the : “I don't know another way because sometimes I need the last night also to get my ideas in the right order.

“Sometimes I just simply don't know it the day before. This is just a common procedure for me to give it either in the morning or even in the afternoon of an evening match.

“Listen, I think that most of the players know when they see the last training. I think most of the players know. Anyway, this kind of ‘ooh, we keep it secret’. I mean, honestly, Thiago Silva knew at Chelsea that he's playing all the time, Antonio Rudiger knew he's playing, Jorginho knew that he was playing.

“I don't think that is worried about his place in the starting line-up tomorrow. I’m not so sure.

“I think some players know if they are fit, they're picked and they will play, and some players don't. This is normal because we also have the chance to take last decisions and this will stay like that.”

Tuchel sprang a surprise by picking on Friday night but may make changes for Latvia, although he insisted that he wants to go as strong as possible.

He added: “We have reasons to let all of them play again and say ‘let’s do better’, but we also have reports from the physical department of some concerns. So let’s see. It’s only the second day after the match and we need to be cautious.

“Maybe it will be a mix between both. We have two or three players who felt their legs after the match but let’s see. We have quite some time.”
