Kolkata: Internet has been closed in some areas of the city after a violent clash between two groups in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The state government has also deployed a large number of security forces here to maintain law and order. According to the police, on the day of Holi i.e. March 14, there was a fight between two groups in Sainthia of Birbhum after some confusion.

According to officials, the internet has been discontinued in at least five gram panchayat areas to prevent rumors and illegal activities from spreading. The ban on internet services will be effective from March 14 to March 17. Police forces have been deployed in the affected areas following reports of stone pelting incident in Birbhum.

According to the government order, messages will not be broadcast temporarily to maintain public system and prevent any crime from promoting any crime. The areas of Birbhum district include Sainthia, Hatora Gram Panchayat (GP), Mathpalasa GP, Harisara GP, Dariyapur GP and Phulur GP.

Violence is hiding Mamta: BJP

Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari targeted the state government for closing the internet and such a situation. He said that closing the internet is evidence that the administration has failed to deal with the situation. The BJP leader posted on X and wrote, “The West Bengal government is trying its best to hide the incidents of communal violence to save its credibility. I urge the Ministry of Home Affairs and His Excellency the Governor to ask for reports from the Chief Secretary of West Bengal about the deteriorating law and order in the state. ”

Ruckus in many places in Bengal: BJP

BJP leader Suvendu official claimed that the incidents of clashes have taken place not only in Birbhum but also in Tamaluk, Nandkumar and other areas across the state. Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar also targeted the state government led by Mamata Banerjee over the alleged clash in Birbhum. He alleged that the state police had become inactive.
