Who is Ranjani Srinivasan, Indian student whose visa was revoked

Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian doctoral student at Columbia University, has voluntarily departed from the US after her visa was revoked.

This came after she was accused of supporting Hamas, which is recognized as a terrorist group by the US.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed Srinivasan used the CBP Home App to depart on March 11, after her visa was canceled on March 5.

A Fulbright scholar, Srinivasan has a stellar academic background: she has an MPhil in Urban Planning from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP).

She also has a Master's in Design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) in Design from CEPT University.

According to her NYU Wagner bio, "Their research focuses on the evolving nature of land-labor relations in peri-urban statutory towns in India."

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem weighed in, saying, "It is a privilege to be granted a visa to live and study in the United States of America."

She added, "When you advocate for violence and terrorism, that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country. I am glad to see one of the Columbia University terrorist sympathizers use the CBP Home App to self-deport."
