Many people skip the renewal process after the validity period of the license expires. A delay in renewal can lead to the expiry of your driving license, resulting in legal complications.

In India, all driving licenses are issued with a limited validity period. A grace period of 30 days is available after the expiry of the driving license. Temporary driving licenses remain eligible for renewal only within these 30 days. If you apply for renewal after this period, you will have to pay a fine. The standard renewal charge for applying on time is Rs 400, but it can increase to Rs 500 if the renewal is delayed by more than a month, reports ABP News.

The validity of a private driving license is 20 years from the date of issue unless the holder reaches the age of 40 first. Upon attaining the age of 40, individuals will receive a valid driving license for ten years, followed by a five-year extension. If the driving license is not renewed within one year of its expiry, it becomes invalid, requiring the applicant to start the entire process again to obtain a new license.

To renew your driving license, visit the official website of the Transport Department. The portal offers two application methods, from which you should choose "Online".

Select "Driving License Related Services" and select your state. Follow the instructions to proceed to the "Select Service on Driving License" page.

Then fill out the application form. You will then have to fill in the date of birth, license number, and other details.

The next step is to click on the renewal option. You will then have to upload your image and signature. And finally, you will have to make the payment.
