Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Shami played a key role in India's six -wicket win by taking five wickets in the Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh on 21 February.
He dismissed Soumya Sarkar, Mehdi Hasan Miraj, Zakir Ali, Tanjim Hasan Saqib and Taskin Ahmed. After dismissing the smuggle, he gave kisses while flying towards the sky. In a press conference after the victory, he also revealed the emotional reason behind the celebration of Flying Kiss.
Shami said, 'That flying kiss was for my father. They are my ideals. They are always present for me. In 2017, Shami's father Tausif Ali died of a heart attack. Shami became the highest wicket -taker for India at the 50 -over ICC event.
He has taken 60 wickets in 50 -over ICC matches. He overtook former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan. Left -arm fast bowler Zaheer Khan took 59 wickets in 32 innings, while Shami crossed the figure in about the 19th innings. Shami has taken 55 wickets in three ODI World Cup, out of which 24 wickets came in 2023 ODI World Cup. Shami also achieved the feat of throwing the lowest balls to complete 200 wickets in ODIs.
Talking about India's first match, Bangladesh set a target of 229 runs. Which Team India achieved at the loss of four wickets in 46.3 overs thanks to Shubman Gill's century. India scored 231 runs chasing the target. Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls.
