has issued an apology after announcing the "wrong name" for his newborn granddaughter.

The Swedish king's son, Prince Carl Philip and his wife, Princess Sofia, welcomed their fourth child, a baby daughter, on February 7.

Today, attended a Council for the birth of the new royal baby with his eldest daughter and heiress to the Swedish throne, Crown Princess Victoria.

However, he sparked confusion after he announced a different name for his granddaughter, who will be called Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, Duchess of Västerbotten.

The king, who has been diagnosed with dyslexia, said that the new baby will be known as Princess Inse instead of Ines.

He also wrongly stated the order of the baby girl's middle, saying Silvia Marie Lilian instead of Marie Lilian Silvia.

Shortly afterwards, the royal court of Sweden issued a statement clarifying the new baby's name.

It read: "The King is very sorry that he said the wrong name. The reason is that the names were kept secret until just before the council, even from the King.

"He did not feel that he said the wrong name when he read the names, but he understood that later."

Earlier today, the court announced: "On Monday 10 February, a Council of State was held at the Royal Palace on the occasion of the birth of TRH Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's fourth child.

"At the Council of State, HM The King informed the Government that the Princess, who is eighth in line to the Throne, will be named Ines Marie Lilian Silvia and known as Princess Ines.

"Princess Ines has been granted the Duchy of Västerbotten.

"In accordance with His Majesty The King's decision of 7 October 2019 regarding changes in The Royal House, Princess Ines is a member of the Royal Family but not of The Royal House.

"The Princess will therefore not enjoy the style of Royal Highness."
