NEW DELHI:  India's Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said 136 operational Vande Bharat trains. By January 2025, 136 Vande Bharat trains are running on the Indian Railways network. These trains, which include chair cars, are almost fully booked, with occupancy close to 100%, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said  in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on Friday.

In the reply dated February 7, the Minister mentioned that the trains, including Vande Bharat services, are operated according to the official schedule, without disrupting other train services.

From April to December 2024, about 2.14 crore passengers traveled on Vande Bharat trains, with nearly all seats filled during this time.

The Vande Bharat trains were introduced to offer a better travel experience and enhanced safety. They are equipped with features like the KAVACH system for safety, faster acceleration, automatic plug doors, ergonomic seats, and more. The trains also have a mini pantry with facilities like a hot case, bottle cooler, and a deep freezer. Additionally, there are special facilities like a lavatory for Divyangjan passengers, CCTVs, and mobile charging sockets for every seat.

The air-conditioning system in these trains uses a UV-C disinfection system to keep the air clean by removing harmful bacteria.

Looking ahead to 2047, Indian Railways is working on modernizing and improving the travel experience with new technology, better stations, and greener operations to help the country's growth.

A New Era in Train Travel with Speed and Comfort

The new Vande Bharat sleeper trains are packed with great features like automatic doors, super comfy beds, on-board WiFi, and a sleek, modern design. People in India are already enjoying a top-notch travel experience with reclining seats on 136 Vande Bharat trains running on shorter and medium routes. With the Vande Bharat Sleeper, passengers can look forward to a quieter, smoother, and more relaxing ride, along with world-class facilities and the latest safety features. Built under the Make in India program, this train shows off India’s engineering skills and its dedication to improving rail travel.
