It's pretty common knowledge that many of the Disney castles are based on real-life palaces across the globe, and it seems that Dreamworks may have also taken some inspiration from real life.

Fans of Shrek have been flocking to Copenhagen after videos showing the city's Grundtvig's Church began going viral on social media, due to its resemblance to a church seen in the Shrek films.

One video shared by TikTok user Alicja Kocemba has racked up over 2.5 million views, while over on Instagram travel influencer Nicole Hu, who posts as @hutravelstheworld, labelled visiting the church her favourite part of visiting Copenhagen.

Nicole captioned her video: "Do you recognise this church from Fiona and farquaad's wedding where Shrek storms in??"

"I had no idea this place existed in Copenhagen til I got there and I'm SO happy we visited. About a 30 min bus ride from the city center and super easy to get to!"

Both videos had Shrek fans filling the comments section, with one writing: "Booking our next trip as we speak." While another commented: "I guess I gotta go back to Copenhagen now. Damn."

And a third quipped: "Legit contemplating moving to this part of the city just so I can get married there lol."

Grundtvig's Church, named after the Danish philosopher and pastor N.F.S. Grundtvig, is a relatively newer church. The foundation for the building was laid on 8 September 1921, but it was not completed until 1940.

The first part of the Church, the tower, was completed in 1927, and the church was inaugurated into the Church of Denmark. Work was then continued on the interior the adjacent buildings.

The church's architect, Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, sadly passed away in 1930, ten years before the church's completion, but his work was continued by his son Kaare Klint.

Kaare also designed the nearby Bethlehem Church, which was based on his father's sketches, which was built between 1935 and 1937.

Grundtvig's Church stunning architecture has made it a popular tourist attraction in the years since building was complete, and the Shrek films have only added to this with fans of the films making a beeline to Grundtvig's when visiting Copenhagen.
