Max Macmillan, known for his role as Timothy Turner in the beloved BBC period drama Call the Midwife, first graced our screens in 2012. His character was introduced during the inaugural Christmas special as Doctor Patrick Turner's (Stephen McGann) mischievous yet kind-hearted son.
In his debut scene, young Timothy patiently waits in the car for his father, who is attending to an elderly woman in desperate need of medical help. A boy scout at heart, he participates in Nurse Chummy's (Miranda Hart) Christmas nativity, playing the violin and earning a proud look from his father.
Fans will recall that Timothy's biological mother, Mrs. Marianne Turner, tragically died from cancer, as revealed in the 2012 Christmas special. He now considers former nun Shelagh as his mother, following her marriage to his father.
In the season 10 finale, which aired in May 2021, Timothy bids farewell to his family as he leaves for medical school in Edinburgh, emulating his GP father. However, he returns in series 11 with glandular fever, but quickly springs into action after a train crash nearly takes the lives of Doctor Turner and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter).
Fans of Call the Midwife have watched Timothy mature from a young boy into a budding doctor in training, following in the footsteps of his on-screen father, Doctor Turner. However, viewers are still waiting for his appearance in the currently airing 14th series on BBC One, reports .
Max began his acting career with Call the Midwife and hasn't featured in many other shows, although he did star in a short film titled The Night To Come. In 2019, he shared the screen with Tim Roth and Clive Owen in The Song of Names, a film centred around two boys united by their mutual love for music.
Beyond acting, Max is also musically gifted, showcasing his singing and instrumental skills both on Call The Midwife and at several real-life concerts. His mother, Gilly Macmillan, is an internationally acclaimed author known for her thrilling novels, including The Manor House, The Perfect Girl, The Nanny, and The Long Weekend.
Call the Midwife currently airs every Sunday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer
