Sky Sports reporter Natalie Gedra has been lauded by fans for her exceptional interview with Liverpool's , seamlessly switching between English and Spanish to facilitate the conversation with the Uruguayan striker.
Nunez was the star of the show in Liverpool's Saturday night clash against , netting two goals in extra-time to secure a crucial 2-0 victory, pushing the Reds six points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
Despite struggling for minutes under manager Arne Slot, Nunez's late heroics have signalled his readiness for more game time. Gedra led the post-match interview for Sky Sports, adeptly navigating the language barrier with the former Benfica player.
"Here he is, the hero of this match, the hero of this Liverpool win against Brentford. Nunez scored two goals so I'm going to start talking to him and asking him about the circumstances of the match, two goals after 90 minutes," she said before switching to Spanish to converse with Nunez.
She translated his responses, revealing that the season had been tough but he was pleased with his "important" goals. Gedra then proceeded to question him about his struggles to break into Liverpool's first team, stating: "I'm going to ask about this challenging season that he's had because he hasn't been the first option as a striker for Liverpool.
After Nunez's statement, Gedra translated, explaining: "He said he never throws in the towel and if he's struggling with finishing then he will try more on a daily basis. He knows he's going through a tough time but will continue giving everything he can to Liverpool. These two goals he scored today will make a good cause for him."
Supporters were thrilled with the interview setup, appreciating the rare opportunity to hear from players whose English isn't fluent. One spectator voiced their approval on YouTube, saying: "Having this new Sky reporter is brilliant. She essentially unlocks all the Spanish and South American players that we rarely get to hear from. She's fantastic."
Praise continued as another wrote: "Massive respect to that reporter and the interview in general, I hope everyone's praise for her and how this interview was conducted actually gets through to Sky Sports and forces a bit of change. This allows foreign players to integrate into the English leagues more naturally and more confidently."
Echoing the sentiment, a third fan expressed their admiration: "Forgetting the fact that this interviewer has many languages, but she asks questions us the fans want to know, Nunez is a mystery on and off the field. Good to hear him talk. Great interview."
Nunez has now netted six times across all competitions, including four in the Premier League. Slot expressed his satisfaction with the player's performance, stating: "I think he's having a good season, where he scores goals, he works very hard for the team, he assists. But he's in competition with a lot of good players, so that's why he's not every single game on the pitch.
"But I'm very happy with him - not only because he scored today two goals but that, of course, helps - but I'm very happy with the other performances he put in for us as well."
