aired a huge blunder when reporting on the death of footballing icon Denis Law.

The Manchester United icon died on Friday (January 17) aged 84, with his family confirming he "fought a tough battle, but finally, he is now at peace."

But while reporting on a completely different news story, Sky News flashed up a photo of Denis in his football kit, with the strap-line "Nazi-obsessed man jailed for life" in capitals underneath. presenter Darren Grimes pointed out the error on X, sharing a video of the incident.

Presenter Barbara Serra was reading the bulletins of the day, beginning to say: "This is Sky News, coming up, a Nazi-obsessed man who, erm..."

Ever the professional, Barbara corrected herself, explaining: "Sorry, we'll bring you the latest on the death of Denis Law, who has passed at the age of 84."

Despite Barbara's apology, viewers quickly insisted the channel itself should have stepped in, taking to social media to share their reactions. One viewer wrote: "Oh dear, Sky..."

Someone else agreed: "Methinks Sky News might owe the family of the late, great Denis Law an apology..." as another fan tweeted: "Eeesh this is awkward."

Another posted: "The Sky News lady was talking about a neo-Nazi terrorist who got jailed for attempted murder and a muppet in the backroom staff used a picture of Denis Law. You should have seen her face. Poor lady nearly collapsed in shock!"

Tributes have been paid to Denis after his death, with the official X account writing: "United royalty, revered all around the world. All hail to the King: Denis Law."

The Ballon d'Or account penned: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Denis Law, our 1964 Ballon d'Or, the King of the Stretford End. All our thoughts are with his family."

Express.co.uk has contacted Sky News for comment.
