The last few years have seen a rapid increase in cases of human papilloma virus (HPV). Especially young children and youth are getting infected by this virus, due to which the cases of throat, tonsil and tongue cancer have also increased. According to an estimate, 70 percent of oral cancer cases are caused by HPV alone. This infection spreads through sexual contact and due to this the risk of penile cancer, anal cancer and cervical cancer also increases. Although in most cases this infection resolves on its own, in some cases it can cause serious and dangerous disease.

Risk and prevention of getting infected with HPV
The risk of getting infected with HPV is especially high in boys under 20 years of age. In such a situation, prevention from this infection is very important. The HPV vaccine can be used to prevent HPV infection, which reduces the risk of cancer caused by this virus. This vaccine is effective in preventing the risk of cancer caused by HPV infection in youth and men.

Vaccine can also be given to school going children
Experts say that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent HPV infection. Vaccination of HPV vaccine can reduce cancer cases by 90%. This vaccine can be administered to children aged 9 to 14 years, and it can also be administered to school going boys and girls. This vaccination reduces the risk of HPV infection in children and is purely preventive.

Can HPV cause head and neck cancer?
The cases of oropharyngeal cancer (cancer of the throat, tonsils and tongue) are now increasing in boys and men due to HPV virus. Apart from this, cases of head and neck cancer have also increased. At the same time, symptoms of cervical cancer are also being seen in women. HPV not only causes penile and oropharyngeal cancer, but it can also cause head and neck cancer. According to experts, 31% of penile cancers are caused by the HPV virus, and it also increases the risk of head and neck cancer.

HPV vaccination is considered an important preventive measure for children and youth, which can prevent dangerous diseases like cancer in the future.
