A new reality show following a group of glamorous and entrepreneurial young people in Liverpool is set to launch tonight (November 12), rivalling shows like Made in Chelsea and TOWIE.

It's A Scouse Life's official synopsis describes it as a "reality show following the glamorous lives of a group of young metropolitan Merseysiders as they work hard and play hard in one of Europe's liveliest cities: Liverpool."

The primary cast is made up of nine personalities: Georgia, Jonny, Jess, Rain, Liam, Leon, Melina, Ant and Jenny. Produced by Optomen Television, the pilot promises drama by hinting: "Mates, dates and frenemies thrash out their feelings against a backdrop of glitzy parties, glamorous residences, and Liverpool's iconic sights."

One of the most explosive on-screen feuds in the very first episode is between Miss Liverpool winner Georgia Austin and entrepreneur Melina Halpin. The pair and their respective dramas are a key focus of the pilot and viewers will no doubt be keen to know more about them. So what do we know about Melina Halpin?

Early life and career

The pilot episode shows Melina's journey setting up a new fashion brand with her close friend Thomas and the complications they face getting it off the ground after Thomas' ill-timed trip abroad.

Outside of being a fashion entrepreneur, she is a well-rounded performer, with a talent for acting, singing, dancing and pageantry. She was crowned Miss Cheshire in 2019 and was also a Miss GB finalist.

She attended the Liverpool Theatre School and graduated with a diploma in professional musical theatre. Maxine Ellis, Principal at Liverpool Theatre School, told YM Liverpool back in 2020: "Melina has been part of the Liverpool Theatre School family since she was three years old, training at our junior school before going on to graduate with a diploma in professional musical theatre from our full-time college."

Little Mix connection

When she was 24, Melina appeared on girl band 's 2020 talent show Little Mix: The Search. The competition aimed to form six new bands which were mentored individually by the popstars. The winning group then supported Little Mix on their UK Confetti tour.

Melina impressed at her audition with a rendition of Elle King's hit Ex's and Oh's, making it into one of the bands. Sadly she didn't win, with boyband Since September ultimately crowned the show's winners.

Health scare

Melina opened up to her social media followers that she was diagnosed with BRACA1 gene - also referred to as the breast cancer gene - at the age of 18. In a heartfelt post on , she shared the story of her diagnosis which came after both her mother and grandmother developed breast cancer.

"What this basically means is I have a very increased risk of developing breast cancer when I am older," she shared. "Because I have a higher risk of developing breast cancer than the general population and a therefore a 'red flag' this means that I’ve been fortunate enough to be enrolled in a programme where they tightly monitor me every year with a breast MRI."

She urged her followers who may have a family history of cancer to reach out to their GP for advice, stressing she wanted to use her platform "to spread awareness about something I’ve been going through the past 10 years of my life."

Relationship

In the pilot episode Melina unveils her partner Darren Till, a professional MMA fighter. The pair met in a wine bar in Liverpool and are shown house-hunting just a few months into their relationship.

"We vibed straight away. Going out with Darren has just been the biggest whirlwind ever," Melina said of her boyfriend. "I've been completely swept off my feet."
