The central government has issued new pension guidelines, introducing an additional compassionate pension for retired central government employees aged 80 and above. This measure aims to provide financial support for "super senior citizens" and simplify the distribution process.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions announced that pensioners aged 80 and above will receive an extra allowance known as the compassionate pension. This follows the updated CCS (Pension) Rules 2021, which authorize additional pension amounts for retirees over 80.
For example, pensioners born on August 20, 1942, became eligible for an additional 20% pension from August 1, 2022.
According to the notification, the additional pension will take effect on the first day of the month in which the pensioner reaches the specified age. This extra support is intended to help older pensioners cope with rising living costs as they age. Government departments and banks handling pension distribution have been instructed to implement these new guidelines promptly, ensuring that eligible pensioners receive their additional benefits without delay.
