Chennai: Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade ordered to declare a holiday for all schools on November 12 (Tuesday) in view of heavy rains in Chennai district. She decided to close all schools in the district after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert. Many other parts of Tamil Nadu are also likely to receive incessant rain this week including Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram.
The district administration has decided to close all the schools in the district as a precautionary measure. Along with heavy rains, the IMD has issued warnings to many districts. A yellow alert was issued for 12 districts on November 12, 17 districts on November 13, 27 districts on November 14, and 25 districts on November 15.
ANI quoted Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, “In light of the heavy rain forecast, holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai today.” All government private schools will remain closed on Tuesday because of the heavy rainfall. Many coaching institutions and colleges also announced a holiday in view of rain. All physical activities in the educational institutions are likely to resume after reopening.
The education department has temporarily suspended all school activities after a yellow alert for many districts of Tamil Nadu along with Chennai. Parents and students should note that there is still no official announcement on the continuation of the school closure order or the reopening of schools on November 13. It is advised to stay in touch with the school administration regarding the resumption of schools.
