A documentary spotlighting one of Formula 1's most unexpected triumphs is due to be launched on BBC iPlayer.

Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story provides an insider's view of the notorious Brawn GP team, which propelled Jenson Button to victory in the 2009 World Championship and Constructors Championship.

The team's ascent to the pinnacle of Formula 1 occurred after Honda withdrew from the sport in 2008 and Ross Brawn acquired the team for a mere £1. The team assembled a car that outpaced its competitors, largely due to a contentious double diffuser, and clinched six of its first seven races.

Presented by actor and motorsport enthusiast Keanu Reeves, this four-part documentary features anecdotes from Brawn GP's staff, Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, and other key figures in F1 at the time.

The series was initially released on Disney+ and Hulu on November 15, 2023, but all episodes will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer from Sunday, November 17.

Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story will be aired weekly, starting at 9pm on Sunday, November 17, reports .

This series is a North One production developed, written, and produced by showrunner Simon Hammerson, with three-time BAFTA-winning executive producer Neil Duncanson and directed by 2022 Broadcast best sports documentary winner Daryl Goodrich, with Keanu Reeves serving as host and executive producer.

Keanu Reeves takes the wheel as host and executive producer in a gripping F1 documentary, starring alongside key figures such as Ross Brawn, Jenson Button, Nick Fry, Rubens Barrichello, and Red Bull's Christian Horner.

Commenting on the series, F1 journalist Daniel Moxon noted: "Hollywood megastar Keanu Reeves may seem like an odd choice to narrate and host at first, but from a very early stage it becomes apparent he is having a whale of a time, cracking jokes with interviewees and showing great, genuine interest in the subject matter.

"He handles the interviews well for the most part but, understandably, withers in the presence of former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone whose bluntness leaves Reeves speechless on more than one occasion.

"The Brawn show is clearly aimed at those newer F1 fans hooked by the sport in recent years. It doesn't really break any new ground in terms of nuggets of information that were not already in the public domain.

"The overdramatic nature may be off-putting to some, but Disney have done well to create an eminently watchable show that should appeal to most fans of the sport."
