Before the IPL 2025 super auction, the Chennai Super Kings kept a number of players, including MS Dhoni.
Thanks to the most recent Indian Premier League regulation change, former captain Dhoni was acquired by CSK as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore.
When discussing Dhoni’s prospects for the IPL, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan made a bold claim.
He said that he is certain Dhoni would make the “right decision” and that CSK’s doors will always open for him.
“You are aware that Mahi bhai, or brother, keeps everything to himself. It only surfaces at the very last second. We’re hopeful that he would stay involved with CSK because of his love for the team, his fan base, and the fact that he said in an interview that he would play his last game in Chennai. The doors are open as long as MS wishes to participate. In an interview with Rayudu on Provoke TV, Viswanathan said, “I’m confident he’ll always make the right choice because I know him, his dedication, and his commitment.”
Notably, Dhoni resigned as captain of CSK before to the 2024 Indian Premier League. The seasoned cricket player has been quiet about his intentions for the 2025 season after his team’s shocking elimination from the competition.
Dhoni discussed how athletes in professional sports often find it challenging to just enjoy the game. The 43-year-old said that his current goal is to spend the next few years enjoying cricket.
“I just want to savor the few years of cricket I can still play, like when we used to go out and play at 4 p.m. as kids, just having fun with the game.” It becomes difficult to appreciate professional sports as only a game, however. “I want to enjoy it for the next few years, but there are commitments and emotions involved,” Dhoni said.
Before declaring his retirement in 2020, Dhoni last represented India in the 2019 ODI World Cup quarterfinal matchup against New Zealand.
Since then, Dhoni has only played in the IPL. Last season, he played as a pure wicketkeeper-batter and finished as a finisher for the five-time winners, scoring 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.
