Houston, 11 Nov. Authorities say one person was murdered and 16 people, including students, were wounded in a Tuskegee University shooting in Alabama.
Xinhua stated that the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation revealed that one 18-year-old died at the site and twelve others were shot.
The institution said that the deceased victim was not a student. “Several others including Tuskegee University students were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.”
Officials say Tuskegee celebrated its 100th homecoming on Saturday as a football game against Alabama’s Miles College ended.
Authorities believe many shooters were involved, ABC News reported. Broadcastify broadcasts showed one cop saying, “There’s going to be two shooters at this time, maybe more,” in a radio communication. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported no arrests as of Sunday afternoon.
Tuskegee University President and CEO Mark Brown addressed the event during Sunday’s Homecoming Convocation.
He continued, “I now ask that you would join me in a brief moment of silence as we reflect on the lost soul and the parents, family members and friends that grieve,” citing student and teacher safety concerns.
The tragedy is the latest southern US homecoming shooting and campus shooting.
A shooting at Albany State University in Georgia following a homecoming game on October 19 killed one and wounded many. A Lexington, Mississippi, homecoming was marred by gunshots that killed three and wounded eight. A second shooting at Tennessee State University in Nashville killed one guy and wounded nine on October 12.
