IRCTC’s New Policy
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced an updated travel insurance policy where passengers can now secure an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh for only 45 paise per passenger. This low-cost insurance is optional at booking but will apply to all passengers traveling under the same PNR if chosen. The policy is available exclusively to Indian citizens booking through IRCTC’s e-ticketing platform.
The insurance is offered only to Indian citizens who book e-tickets directly through IRCTC. It excludes foreign nationals, passengers who book through travel agents, and children below five years old without a reserved seat. Children aged 5–11 years will be covered, regardless of whether they have a reserved seat.
Coverage and BenefitsThe insurance provides extensive coverage, divided into four benefit categories:
After booking, passengers will receive an SMS and email with insurance details. They can view the policy number and additional information in their IRCTC booking history. Nominee information must be completed on the insurer’s website post-booking. If left blank, claims will be payable to legal heirs.
This updated policy provides greater financial security to passengers, offering affordable protection against accidents and unforeseen incidents during train journeys.
