Christopher Nolan ’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey might still be a year away from its theatrical release, but the first glimpse of the film has already hit the big screen.
Universal Pictures has attached the exclusive teaser trailer for The Odyssey to screenings of Jurassic World: Rebirth , now playing in theatres worldwide. Staying true to Nolan’s cinematic philosophy, the director has opted to keep the trailer as a 'theatre-only experience' for now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning director believes trailers should be experienced on the big screen, much like his previous film Oppenheimer, whose teaser also debuted exclusively in cinemas.
However, despite these efforts to preserve the theatrical reveal, leaked clips of the 70-second teaser surfaced across social media platforms shortly after the first public screenings. The leaks sent the studio into a scramble to remove the unauthorised footage from various portals and fan accounts.
The teaser features the first footage of Tom Holland as Telemachus and Jon Bernthal deep in conversation. In the clip, Telemachus asks, "I have to find out what happened to my father. When did you last see him?"
Bernthal’s character responds, "I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy. Interested in rumour, huh? Gossip. Who has a story about Odysseus, huh? Some say he’s rich. Some say he’s poor. Some say he perished. Some say he’s imprisoned. What say you?"
The teaser cuts to shots of a choppy sea and a broken Trojan horse, on the shoes of Troy. The clip ends with the line, "One Year From Now… A Journey Begins", before cutting to a scene of Matt Damon ’s Odysseus stranded on a wooden raft in the middle of the ocean.
Despite the takedown efforts, fans who caught the leaked clips online were quick to share their excitement, with many praising the epic scale and tone of the teaser. However, there were others who questioned the 'American accents' of the characters. Check out their reactions below:

The Odyssey is Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of Homer’s legendary poem chronicling the perilous, decade-long journey of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, following the fall of Troy. The film will be released in IMAX and is slated to hit theatres on July 17, 2026.
