Rail ticket price hike 2025 news in hindi: Since July 1, 2025, Indian Railways has implemented a significant increase in fares for railway passengers. This change will affect mail and express trains and it will directly affect the passengers traveling long distances. Roots like Delhi-Patna are the most affected, where passengers will now have to pay more fare than before.
According to the railway department, the fares of AC coach have been increased by 2 paise per kilometer, while the fares of non-AC mail and express trains have been increased by 1 paise per kilometer. The longer the journey, the higher the fare will be visible. However, there has been no change in the fares of local and passenger trains.
The distance between Patna and Delhi is about 1000 km, so the impact of the fare hike on this route is clearly visible. Traveling in popular trains like Rajdhani Express, Sampoorna Revolution, Vikramshila and Purva Express has now become a little expensive. For example, the sleeper class fare in Sampoorna Kranti Express has increased from Rs 510 to Rs 520, third AC fare has increased from Rs 1350 to Rs 1370 and second AC fare has increased from Rs 1920 to Rs 1940. Third AC fare in Rajdhani Express has increased from Rs 2410 to Rs 2430 and second AC fare has increased from Rs 3290 to Rs 3310.
Passengers traveling short distance are some relief. The Railways has clarified that no fare hike has been implemented for traveling up to 500 km. There will be no increase in the fares of local and suburban trains as well as monthly pass holders. Exemptions will also be given to passengers traveling in second class for less than 500 kilometers. However, an additional fee will be levied every two kilometers for a distance of more than 500 kilometers.
According to the Railways, this is a slight increase and has been implemented due to maintenance costs, employees’ expenses and rising fuel prices. This fare amendment has been done after several years and it applies only to long distance mail and express trains.
Therefore, if you are planning to travel in long distance trains like Rajdhani Express or Sampoorna Revolution, then you may have to pay more money in advance. It is appropriate to check the updated fare before booking the ticket.
