New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has inched closer to securing the trademark rights to the iconic moniker "Captain Cool" for sports and entertainment services, as classified under Class 41.
The application, filed with the Trade Marks Office, faced initial objections over the existence of a similar prior mark. However, the office has now ruled in Dhoni's favour, citing his strong public association with the nickname, widely recognised by fans and media alike during his illustrious cricketing career.
Legal experts note that Dhoni's consistent and widespread use of the term, especially in media and merchandise, helped establish its distinctive connection with him in the public domain.
The trademark, once fully registered, would allow Dhoni to exclusively use "Captain Cool" for brand endorsements, sports ventures, and entertainment services under his name.
This legal step further solidifies Dhoni's brand identity post-retirement, following several business and media-related ventures.
