It sometimes feels as though society has played a role in shaping individuals like Sonam Raghuvanshi. Evil is not confined to a single gender; anyone can be a perpetrator of violence or deceit. While incidents involving women, such as those of Sonam from Indore and Muskaan from Meerut, have sparked discussions, the case of Tanu from Faridabad seems to be overlooked. A recent tragedy has unfolded involving a woman named Rithanya, who, despite her father's lavish spending on her wedding, could not secure a better life for her. The newlywed took her own life by consuming poison.
In Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, a 27-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide due to dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws.
Rithanya, identified as the wife of Kavin Kumar, was found dead in her car after ingesting poison. Her body was transported to the Avinashi Government Hospital. Authorities confirmed through a voice message sent by Rithanya's father that there were issues at her husband's home. The local RDO has initiated an investigation. Meanwhile, Rithanya's relatives protested outside the hospital, demanding action against Kavin Kumar and his parents.
Rithanya was the daughter of Annadurai, who runs a garment business. She married 28-year-old Kavin Kumar in April of this year, with the wedding reportedly involving a dowry of 100 sovereigns (800 grams) of gold jewelry and a Volvo car worth 7 million rupees. On Sunday, Rithanya left home, claiming she was going to a temple in Mondipalayam. Allegedly, she stopped her car en route and consumed pesticide tablets. Local residents alerted the police after noticing a car parked for an extended period. Upon investigation, officers discovered Rithanya's lifeless body inside, with foam around her mouth.
Sources indicate that prior to her death, Rithanya sent seven audio messages to her father via WhatsApp, apologizing for her decision and expressing her inability to endure the alleged mistreatment. In one message, she claimed that her husband and in-laws had orchestrated her marriage to Kavin. She expressed, "I cannot bear their mental torture daily. I don't know who to talk to about this. Those who listen want me to compromise and say that life will go on, but they do not understand my suffering."
In her messages, she acknowledged that her parents might doubt her but insisted she was not lying. "Everyone around me is pretending, and I don't understand why I am silent or how I have become this way. I cannot continue living like this," she stated.
Rithanya further expressed, "I do not want to be a burden on you for life. I have not made any mistakes this time. I do not like this life. They are mentally torturing me, while my husband is physically abusing me. I cannot continue this life."
She added, "You and mom are my world. You have been my hope until my last breath, but I have caused you much pain. You cannot openly express this, yet you cannot bear to see me like this. I understand your suffering. I am sorry, father, it is all over. I am leaving."
Rithanya's body has been sent for post-mortem at the district government hospital. Her relatives gathered outside the hospital, demanding justice. The police have registered a case and arrested her husband Kavin Kumar, along with his father and mother. The investigation is ongoing.
