Hyderabad: Popular Telugu news anchor Swetcha Votarkar died by suicide on Friday night. She was found dead at her house in Hyderabad's Jawahar Nahar area. Her body was taken to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.

Votarkar worked as a journalist and anchor in Telugu TV channels for the past 18 years. She became popular with TV9. At the time of her death, the Telugu news anchor was a member of the TUWJ State Committee.

The reason behind her extreme step to end her life is not known. She was reportedly staying in an apartment penthouse in Jawahar Nagar with her school-age daughter.

The police are investigating all the angles, whether it was a suicide or there was any foul play involved in her death. Votarkar worked as a special correspondent for T News Channel and made a special mark for herself in the Telugu media.

After receiving information about Swetcha's death, the Chikkadapalli police rushed to her residence and started an investigation.

The Telugu news anchor got divorced from her husband five years ago, reported News18 Telugu.

Swetcha's death has left her fellow journalists in shock.
