Arsenal are on the brink of signing Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard and making him their third addition of the summer transfer window. The Gunners have tabled a £9.3million bid for the Danish player, who has been a pivotal figure at Brentford since his arrival from Fiorentina in 2019.
BBC Sport say Arsenal and Brentford have now shaken hands on a deal. Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Arsenal are set to finalise their move for the Bees captain, 31, who has made 196 appearances for the London club and will undergo a medical in the coming days. Denmark international Norgaard, who has represented his country over 20 times, previously played under Thomas Frank at Brondby, but won't be following his former manager to Tottenham, where Frank recently took up the managerial role.
With Thomas Partey set to leave the Emirates on a free transfer at the end of the month, Norgaard will come in as an experienced replacement. Mikel Arteta is already set to seal two other signings - the £55million Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for £5m due to a release clause.
Partey's potential exit would make him the second midfielder to leave north London this summer, following Jorginho's departure. But Zubimendi's move is expected to be finalised in the next few days and Arrizabalaga's arrival is also a formality for a nominal fee.
The Gunners are also persisting in their quest for a new striker, which is their top priority this summer. Benjamin Sesko has emerged as their main target but his wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block, which could jeopardise the deal with RB Leipzig.
Sporting centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres is another potential target they could chase. On the other hand, Brentford, despite potentially losing Norgaard, are hoping to make a hefty profit from Bryan Mbeumo's departure.
The forward relocated to London when they were a Championship side and recently enjoyed a 20-goal season in the Premier League. Manchester United have had several bids turned down as the club seek more than £60m for their top goalscorer.
