The monsoon havoc in Himachal Pradesh is continuously increasing. After Kullu, the situation in Dharamshala has also become serious. On Wednesday, a big accident occurred due to sudden increase in water level in the managerial ravine of Khaniyara region. Due to this flood, many laborers working in Indira Priyadarshini Hydroelectric Project got caught in the strong flow of water.
According to the information, out of about 100 laborers working at the project site, about 25 laborers have been hit by floods. So far, two bodies have been recovered, which have not been identified yet. One body is found near Tillu while the other has been recovered from Naguni area. Although the team of SDRF, local administration and revenue departments engaged in relief and rescue work have reached the spot, but due to lack of contact with some teams, the actual situation has not been clear.
According to Amar Singh, the head of Gram Panchayat Saukani Da, due to heavy rains, the flow of the ravine suddenly turned to the temporary colony of the workers, where they were resting due to rain. During this time, many laborers were swept away in the sharp stream. Most of the workers who are flowing are being told from Srinagar.
Local people have alleged that due to the hydropower project, there has been a change in the direction of ravines and drains due to heavy trees cutting and throwing debris in the area, causing this accident. In the past, complaints were also made to the administration in this matter, but no concrete action was taken.
MLA Sudhir Sharma expressed deep grief over the incident and said that about 15–20 laborers are feared to be flowing and this is a very painful accident.
