India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant once again reminded fans why he’s one of cricket’s most entertaining personalities, both with the bat and with his banter. On Day 2 of the 1st Test between England and India at Headingley, a light-hearted on-field exchange between Pant and England's young wicketkeeper Jamie Smith went viral, adding a comic twist to a tense morning session.
Pant, who resumed play on 65* overnight, was in full flow as he went on to score a dynamic 134, anchoring India’s innings and treating fans to a mix of attacking strokes and cheeky moments. However, beyond the boundaries and milestones, it was his hilarious back-and-forth with Smith that stole the show during the match.
During one of Shoaib Bashir’s overs, Smith could be heard shouting to his fielders, “No twos!”, in an attempt to limit India’s scoring. Without missing a beat, Pant shot back with a playful response: “Yeah, if he gives me a full toss, no twos. He’s bowling well.”
The exchange was picked up on the stump mic and quickly made its way to social media, where fans couldn’t stop laughing. It showcased Pant’s classic wit, presence of mind, and ability to lighten the mood even during high-pressure situations.
