Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, actor Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, passed away in London on June 12 after suffering a fatal heart attack during a polo match. He was 53. The last rites were conducted at the Lodhi Road Crematorium in New Delhi, with several close family members and friends in attendance. A video shared on social media shows Karisma, dressed in a white suit, solemnly offering floral tributes at the ceremony. She was accompanied by her children, Samaira and Kiaan, who also paid their final respects alongside her.
In visuals that surfaced online, Karisma is seen kneeling beside Sunjay’s mortal remains, joined by her daughter and son in a quiet moment of remembrance. The family stood united in grief as they participated in the final rituals.
In another video, Kareena Kapoor is also seen at the funeral.
Earlier in the day, the actor was seen at Mumbai’s private airport with her children as they made their way to Delhi for the funeral. Later in the evening, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma’s sister, and her husband Saif Ali Khan were also spotted at the airport en route to the capital.
A formal prayer gathering has been scheduled for June 22 at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi, from 4 pm to 5 pm. A message circulating online bears the names of his family members — mother Rani Surinder Kapur, wife Priya, and children Safira and Azarias, along with Samaira and Kiaan, Sunjay’s children from his marriage to Karisma.
The businessman reportedly collapsed mid-game while playing polo in London. While some unconfirmed reports suggest a bee sting may have contributed to the heart attack, an official confirmation on the exact cause of death has not been released.
Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple shared over a decade together before filing for divorce in 2014, which was finalised in 2016. They have two children, Samaira (19) and Kiaan (13).
