Chef Gordon Ramsay was instantly humbled by his mum with a simple four-word question in a light-hearted clip that's resurfaced on social media.

The esteemed restauranteur and television presenter, 58, is famed for his no-nonsense, direct manner, often delivering harsh truths with a blend of brutal insults and wisecracks.

He first shot to fame after appearing on the documentary miniseries, Boiling Point, back in 1999. The series followed him as he worked to open his flagship , Restaurant .

The restaurant has since earned him a highly respected and distinguished three Michelin Stars, an amount that's a rarity. The series revealed his determination, as well as his fiery temper which is something of a trademark - alongside his regular use of profanity.

The guru got a very subtle taste of his own medicine when cooking with his mother. Despite training under Michelin-starred chefs in in his early 20s, and going on to run a successful restaurant business, the TV star was put in his place by his mum.

In a clip that has been re-shared on Reddit, Ramsay can be seen taking a pie out of the oven and placing it on a counter next to another. His mum then simply asked: "Cooked in the middle?"

Gordon replied: "Is that cooked in the middle?" before taking the end of a spoon and pressing it into the middle of the dish and spotting it actually wasn't cooked in the middle. The chef then said: "Oh, s***. No, it's not actually."

His mum then burst into laughter, prompting the chef to declare: "Oh, all right, smarta***"

before querying as to how his mother knew it wasn't cooked all the way through.

She told her son that, from her vantage point, she could see it was "sinking in the middle" and compared it to the Titanic.

The clip was posted on the popular social media platform Reddit alongside the caption: "Gordon Ramsay owned in the kitchen, by his mum".

The poster then added: "Imagine spending two decades mastering cooking just to get owned by your own mum."

In the comments section, people shared their thoughts. One person said: "Gordon has always had an attitude, but he knows when to back off when he is in the wrong. Solid dude [to be honest]."

Another said: "No matter where you are in life, your mom can always remind you she's the real boss lol".

A third quipped: "Mama Ramsay is the only chef who could tell Gordon the chicken is undercooked."

Someone else shared a personal encounter with the chef. They said: "I've met Gordon twice and he's the biggest teddy bear of a man you could ever meet. He even remembered me the 2nd time we bumped into each other.

"He's passionate about getting things right and always putting a full effort into everything you can do. I took that attitude as inspiration."
