Kamal Haasan ’s much-anticipated film ' Thug Life ' began its box office journey on a solid note, raking in ₹15.5 crore on its opening day across all languages. The Tamil version dominated with ₹13.35 crore, while the Telugu and Hindi versions added ₹1.5 crore and ₹0.65 crore, respectively. With strong pre-release buzz, fan shows, and widespread curiosity, the Day 1 numbers reflected the power of Kamal Haasan's brand and the expectations surrounding this action-packed entertainer.
A sharp drop on day 2 dampens momentum
However, Mani Ratnam 's directorial saw a sharp dip on Day 2, collecting ₹7.15 crore—marking a significant 53.87% drop, as per Sacnilk. While Tamil Nadu continued to lead with ₹6.35 crore, the collections in Telugu and Hindi circuits dropped to ₹0.5 crore and ₹0.3 crore, respectively. Despite a festive release window, the decline indicated that the film’s content may not have fully resonated with the wider audience, especially in non-Tamil belts.
Saturday holds steady, but growth stalls.
Saturday brought little improvement, with the film earning ₹7.14 crore—a negligible dip of 0.14% from Friday. The Tamil version contributed ₹6.38 crore, while Telugu and Hindi stayed around ₹0.52 crore and ₹0.24 crore. The stable Saturday performance gave some hope for the weekend, but the film still failed to show the typical upward trend usually expected on weekends, especially with a superstar-led project.
Sunday crash raises alarms
The biggest surprise came on Sunday, when collections nosedived to just ₹1.12 crore, a figure that has raised eyebrows among trade analysts. With the 4-day total standing at ₹30.91 crore, Thug Life’s box office journey so far has been underwhelming. Despite a strong start, the steep fall signals mixed word-of-mouth and stiff competition. All eyes are now on the weekdays to see if the film can stabilize or continue its decline.
