Popular Indian and RCB cricketer Virat Kohli is making headlines once again, though this time it's not cricket related. His Bengaluru pub named One8 Commune has run into legal issues for ignoring smoking regulations.

The Cubbon Park Police have taken action on their own against One8 Commune. They say the pub broke the law under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). According to a report by ANI, the pub does not have a separate smoking area, which is required by law.

The pub has been prosecuted under Sections 4 and 21 of COTPA. These sections address regulations regarding smoking in public areas and the requirement for special smoking areas in restaurants and bars.

This case follows that the government of Karnataka has made a decision to prohibit hookah bars entirely and increase the age limit to purchase tobacco items from 18 to 21 years. The government's Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Amendment) Act, 2024, was newly ratified by the President.

It's not the first time One8 Commune has been in trouble. In June 2024, police charged the pub with remaining open after law hours. In December 2024, the city corporation (BBMP) issued a notice to the pub as it hadn't received fire safety clearance from the Fire Department.

The pub’s name, One8, comes from Virat Kohli’s jersey number 18, which is special to him. The word Commune was chosen to show a friendly and community feel, a place where people can come together to eat, relax, and have fun.
