Lloyds bank has become the first UK bank to offer a new in-app service specifically targeted at anyone booking flights or holidays. CalledLloyds Travel Booking, when the service is launched customers will be able to book their getaways straight through their banking app.

The service is due to be available to all Lloyds customers this week and will be powered by travel tech platform Hopper. The new features hitting screens as part of this new service including best price guarantee.

If a Lloyds customer books a holiday through the new service but then finds a better price for it elsewhere within 24 hours, Lloyds Travel will match this new lower price. Additionally, if you are planning a flight the service will share some insights.

Based on travel and price trends, Lloyds Travel will recommend the optimal time for you to fly, or whether you should wait before buying your tickets.

It will also provide price drop protection so if you do end up buying plane tickets through the service and the price of tickets drops in the following 10 days, Lloyds Travel will credit you the difference.

Holidaymakers will be able to keep track of all their holiday bookings directly in their Lloyds banking app.

Tamara van den Ban, managing director of customer propositions at Lloyds Bank, commented: "Holidays give people a chance to escape the realities of everyday life, spend time with their loved ones and experience new things. UK spending data shows just under a tenth of household spending goes on travel, so we understand it's a big part of our customers' lives.

"We knew we wanted to make it easier for our customers to organise their trips from beginning to end and bringing Lloyds Travel Booking to the app is a great solution.

"Working with Hopper, we're the first UK bank to offer our customers unparalleled convenience, value and peace of mind when planning their travels, all of which can be managed in the palm of their hand, through our mobile app."

The launch comes after fresh research from Hopper unveiled the top summer destinations for travellers departing from UK airports, revealing some surprising locations:

  • Istanbul, Türkiye
  • Bangkok, Thailand
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  • New York City, United States
  • Delhi, India
