New Delhi: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have formed a lethal offesnive partnership on the pitch over the years and have now extended it beyond it to launch a new football team.

The South Americans have turned business partners to announce a professional team in Suarez's native Uruguay. The Inter Miami team-mates have named their club Deportivo LSM.

In a video posted on Suarez's social media accounts, Suarez said that the team that was formerly known as Deportivo LS will now be known as LSM and begin playing in the fourth division.

'Deportivo LS is a family dream that began in 2018. We have grown a lot with more than 3,000 members. I want to offer Uruguayan football, the place I love and where I grew up as a child, opportunities and tools for teenagers and children to grow,' Suarez said.

Suarez is the all-time leading scoring of the Uruguayan national team. He retired from international football in September of last year.

The 38-year-old Suarez has played alongside Messi at Spanish giants FC Barcelona for six seasons, and then again became teammates at Inter Miami in the last two years.

'I'm proud and happy that you chose me, so I hope to contribute everything I can to continue growing and, above all, to be by your side in this,' Messi said in the video while sitting alongside Suarez.

Details about Messi's role in the club is awaited though local media reports suggest he will be a partner. Former Uruguay and Inter Milan midfielder will be the team's coach, those reports added.

Suarez and Messi also launched the club's Instagram account, and had more than 40,000 new followers two hours after its creation.

In 2018, Suarez and his family developed a 20-acre sports complex in Ciudad de la Costa on the outskirts of Montevideo that has facilities for multiple activities for over 3,000 members.

The club has got a synthetic turf stadium that can hold 1,400 spectators, as well as other fields.
