Navi Mumbai: State Forest Minister and Palghar District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik has directed CIDCO to immediately withdraw demolition and eviction notices issued to unauthorized homes constructed before 2015. The directive came during a Janata Darbar held at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi, where over 400 public grievances were submitted.

Addressing the session, Naik emphasized that the Maharashtra government has granted legal protection to unauthorized constructions built up to 2015. Therefore, any notices issued by CIDCO in violation of this provision must be retracted without delay.

“If the government has already granted amnesty, then on what basis were these notices sent?” questioned Naik, instructing both CIDCO and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to halt any further action against such properties.

During the Janata Darbar, which saw the participation of officials from various departments including revenue, police, forest, public works, CIDCO, NMMC, and Thane Municipal Corporation, more than 60% of the grievances received were resolved on the spot. The remaining issues was informed of being addressed within a stipulated time frame.

A major concern raised was by residents of Talavali village, who had received eviction notices from CIDCO. Fearing displacement, the residents sought immediate intervention. Responding firmly, Minister Naik instructed officials to act in accordance with the state’s regularization policy and ensure relief for the affected families.

Naik also issued several civic directives during the session. He called for a comprehensive survey of street vendors to issue legal licenses and urged municipal officials to establish shelter homes for the destitute, with land to be provided by CIDCO. Highlighting Navi Mumbai’s achievements, he claimed the city was 100 times ahead of others in terms of public amenities, sanitation, water supply, and urban planning.

Taking a strong stance against critics of Navi Mumbai’s development, Naik said, “Those who criticize us should not try to teach us wisdom.” He further assured that all levels of government remain vigilant and proactive in efforts to contain COVID-19.
