BMC Issues Notice to Mithun Chakraborty

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has served a show cause notice to renowned actor and BJP member Mithun Chakraborty, citing the construction of an unauthorized ground floor structure in Erangle village, Malad (Madh), Mumbai.

Civic officials reported that the construction was carried out without the necessary approvals, breaching several provisions of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act of 1888, specifically Sections 337, 342, and 347. The BMC has invoked Section 351(1A) of the MMC Act to take action, granting Mithun a seven-day period from May 10 to provide a valid explanation.

The notice indicates that failure to respond could result in the demolition of the structure at the owner's risk and expense, along with possible legal repercussions under Section 475A, which includes fines and imprisonment.

During inspections near Hira Devi Mandir in Erangle village, officials discovered two buildings with one-plus-mezzanine stories, a ground-floor structure, and three temporary units constructed from bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These constructions were erected without the required permissions, prompting the issuance of the notice to the actor.

The BMC has identified over 130 unauthorized constructions in the Madh area, with some allegedly built using fraudulent layout plans. Officials noted that at least nine such structures were demolished on May 9, with plans to eliminate all illegal constructions by May 31.

In response to the allegations, Mithun Chakraborty stated to a local media outlet, 'I have no unauthorized structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies.'
