[US] Washington Lily-Rose Depp and actor Jacob Elordi are in negotiations to appear in Laszlo Nemes’ adaptation of “Outer Dark,” which was written by Cormac McCarthy in 1968.

The Oscar-winning ‘Son of Saul’ director Laszlo Nemes will make his English-language debut with the picture, for which production is scheduled to begin in 2026.

The Great Depression-era Appalachian setting of “Outer Dark” centers on a young lady who becomes pregnant with her brother’s child. According to Deadline, the brother informs his sister that the baby died of natural causes and had to be buried after abandoning the unnamed child to perish in the woods.

After learning of this falsehood, the sister decides to locate the infant on her own. However, the site claims that three terrible individuals are pursuing the brother and sister as they travel across the countryside separately, causing murder and damage wherever they go.

When discussing the movie, Laszlo Nemes said, “Since reading Outer Dark the first time, it has been my dream to make it into a film, and to find the appropriate cinematic language that would do justice to Cormac McCarthy’s evocative and cosmological work.”

“Now that I have two captivating performers on my side, I think it’s feasible. The remarkable source material serves as a powerful source of inspiration for creating a singular universe that simultaneously pulses with life and death. Nemes said, “I want Outer Dark to be an exciting road movie, a terrible and beautiful journey into the labyrinth of the human soul.”

Nemes just finished “Orphan,” his third movie, which Goodridge also produced.

According to Deadline, in addition to Orphan, Goodridge is in post-production on Edward Berger’s next movie, The Ballad of A Small Player, which stars Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton.
